Beautycounter Reviews: Beautycounter, the skin and makeup brand, is now synonymous with a clean beauty movement. Since its inception in 2013, the company has adhered to the “Never List,” which includes 1,500 potentially hazardous or controversial chemicals that have never been included in its products. The corporation is also a B-Corp, which means that it meets the highest standards of social and environmental efficiency, public disclosure, and legal accountability. The Adaptive Moisture Lotion ($49) and the Brillant Brow Gel ($24) are two of its outstanding items (and personal favorites I’ve reviewed). Check out our reviews, too, of the Countertime skincare and sunscreen lines.
Fragrance is also absent from Beautycounter products, and is a standard (and unnecessary) addition to all forms of cosmetics. Fragrance is loosely described as any mixture of 3,000 or more stock chemical ingredients, which may include anything from hormone disruptors to allergens.
Since fragrance formulas are classified as trade secrets under federal law, what’s really inside the ingredient in your lotion will remain a mystery to you, and businesses don’t have to tell you about it. This is known as the “fragrance loophole” in the industry.
