Bell Lets Talk Scam: Bell Let’s Talk is an awareness campaign created by the Canadian telecommunications company, Bell Canada, in an effort to raise awareness and combat stigma surrounding mental illness in Canada. Thousands of academics gathered in Vancouver for the annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in June. They presented papers on everything from child marriage in Canada to why dodgeball is a problem. The Humanities in its Oh! Series, the National Post presents some of the most compelling research.

Jasmine Vido argues in her literature review that the initiative is more about Bell creating his brand than attempting to battle the stigma surrounding mental illness.
“In exchange for the publicity of the campaign, Bell is a service provider receiving a financial award,” the master’s student at the University of Windsor writes in her major research paper.
