Jared Porter is an American baseball manager (born November 23, 1979). From December 2020 to January 2021, when he was shot to send explicit texts and photographs to a female journalist as a Chicago Cubs member in 2016 he held the position of General Manager at the New York Mets of the Major League Baseball (MLB).
Porter was born in Wayzata, Minnesota. His family moved to Duxbury, Massachusetts, at the age of 15. In Braintree, Massachusetts, and Bowdoin College, he participated in the Thayer Academy. In 2003 he graduated with a history degree and he played baseball and hockey for the Bowdoin Polar Bears.
Porter was interned in the 2002 and 2003 Cape Cod Baseball League Brewster Whitecaps. In 2004 he became intern at the Boston Red Sox and in 2012 he became director of technical scouting. He spent two years as Professional Scouting Director for Chicago Cubs, previously under the Red Sox management Theo Epstein, where the team helped set up the World Series Team for 2016, until he became the Senior Vice President and Assistant Director General for 2016/17 with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the off-season.
The New York Mets hired Porter as its managing director on 13 December 2020. On 18 January 2021, ESPN announced that when Porter was with the Cubs as Professional Scouting Director in 2016, he sent more than 60 inappropriate text messages to an unidentified women reporter, including a penis photography. The next day, more than a month after his appointment, the Mets released him.
