Megamillions .Com: Mega Millions started as a major game on 31 August 1996. On September 6, 1996, the first drawing took place with six countries: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia participating.
A Tuesday draught was added in February 1998 after the spirited growth of the game in 1997. In January 1999, players were provided with a larger number choice and an option for “cash payout” The 7th state was established in May 1999 in New Jersey.
In May 2002, the multi-state game was renamed “Mega Millions,” New York and Ohio became member states, and the game matrix and prize amounts were changed to give players more excitement.
With the 2017 re-launch, Mega Millions introduced an innovative jackpot play option. Available in many states, this industry-first option allows players to purchase two chances of winning a jackpot at just $3.00. These jackpot tickets are not eligible for any other prize level.
Until further notice, the starting jackpots will vary on the basis of sales and will be announced before each draw; this temporary measure will be effective as of 7 April 2020.
