Sumterfl Saferestart .Net: There is now an opportunity for a new coronavirus vaccine in people in Sumter County. Florida seniors started receiving their shots on Tuesday. Through a partnership with the Florida Department of Health and Global Medical Response, those 65 years of age and older can receive a vaccine free of charge at a new outdoor site. Site leaders have said that they are releasing the address to those with confirmed appointments.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was there for the first appointments on Tuesday. He said the site would be able to handle 800 to 1,000 vaccinations every day.
Although available appointments have already been booked at the vaccination site, the governor said that more doses are on the way.
“They have the capacity to expand this,” DeSantis said of vaccination operations. “So we told them that if you get the shots, we want to be able to send you more.”
“If you look at Florida in terms of the number of shots we’ve got for senior citizens, we’re leading the country a mile away, and the vast majority of our shots have gone to people 65 and up,” DeSantis said.
People 65 and older must register for an appointment at https://sumterfl.saferestart.net/.
The form will ask for a number of personal questions, including the date of birth and the social security number, to verify the identity of the patient.
As you register for the vaccine, you will also be asked how you would like to receive your special PIN number. According to Global Medical Response, each registrant receives a PIN to avoid false registrations. You can choose to receive your PIN by text, e-mail or phone.
Note: The phone call may come from a different area code because it is system-generated.
